Is The Vending Machine Business A Scam?

Submitted by: Beth Adams

A lot of people unfamiliar with vending want to know if the vending machine business is a scam. While there are some scams in the vending industry, vending is not a scam. A lot of people are very suspicious of home based businesses and for the most part that suspiciousness is well deserved, but not all home businesses are scams. A lot of people have the dream of running their own full time route, but not a lot of people succeed. There are a couple things that lead to so many people failing in vending. The first thing is that a lot of people have unrealistic expectation about vending, they think it’s going to be easy. The second thing is that it’s an easy business to get into. With such a high failure rate, it’s easy to assume that all of vending is a scam, but this is simply not true. Don’t let this keep you from starting up your own route though, vending is a great business for those willing to put in the time and effort.

One of biggest scams to avoid in vending is biz ops. Biz ops are companies essentially selling machines, but they also offer to help you locate the machines, educate you and get you started on the path to vending success. For the most part, they do exactly what they promise, they simply charge too much. If you bought and paid for all of their services individually you, it would cost you a fraction of what the biz op charges. Another big problem with biz ops is that they set people up for failure by making over hyped claims about how much money you can make in vending. They make it all sound so easy and promising. After people shell out their money and find out that they paid too much and that vending isn’t as easy or as profitable as they were told, they end up quitting. They made a bad choice and often are left very disillusioned. It’s easy enough to see how so many of these people would be left with bad feeling about vending and think it’s all just a scam.

If you’re thinking of starting your own route, definitely avoid biz ops. Personally I think all people dreaming of starting their own business should do it, but do it the safe sane way without running up debt. It’s plenty easy to build up a small route for less than $2,000 if you start out with used vending machines. If you hire a locator to help you get your machines on location this only cost about $40-$50 per location. All in all, this can be done very inexpensively. After servicing this small route for a few months, you now have a very cheap education on the vending business. You now know how hard locating can be, you know how much time it takes to service your route and you know how much your machines earn.
